BRICKYARD PROJECT IN SMARA

A laboratory study ordered by the company SOTRAZIBAR and performed by CETEMCO shows that the clay deposited on the banks of the Oued Saqia El Hamra near to the city of Smara showed that red bricks can be manufactured from this clay.
The study of a 200 t / d brickyard project in Smara, carried out by CHAPEM in collaboration with SOTRAZIBAR, highlights the following points:

  • Red bricks in Laâyoune and Smara come from Marrakech, and their prices are heavily burdened by transport costs, prompting construction companies to use concrete blocks.

  • This project will allow good quality red bricks to be available on the local market at very competitive prices. in addition to Smara and Laayoune, the project will supply towns further north such as Tan Tan and Guelmim.

  • This profitable project required an investment of MAD 62 million (equivalent to €5.89 million) and generates a profit margin of 30%.

  • Authorizations :

The project was well received by the local authorities who gave their agreements in principle for its execution.:

Autorization / Permit Agreements in principle given by
Project Execution Province of Smara, Regional investment center
Acquisition of the project land (4ha) Province of Smara, Regional Department of Domains
Temporary occupation of a clay permit (20 ha) Sakia El Hamra Oued Eddahab Bastin Agency, Regional Department of Equipment Ministry
